Routes
Routes let you combine two or more links into a single logical path, giving you an aggregated view of travel time and speed across a multi-segment corridor. The Routes section is where you create and manage those paths, run analysis across them, configure alerts, and fine-tune their settings.
This page walks you through the Routes menu, how to create a new route, and a guide to each tab you'll find when you open a route.
Route Menu
The Route menu displays a list of all the routes you've created, along with their key details - including each route's Name, Distance, Free Flow Speed, and Grid.
To view more details about a specific route, click its name or the arrow next to it in the table.
Create a Route
Routes connect two or more links, allowing you to aggregate data across several segments into a single corridor view. To create a new route:
- Go to Routes > Create.
- Enter a Name for the route.
- Select the links you want to include from the dropdown menu, or click directly on the map to select them.
- Click Save.
Pro Tip
Use Map Settings to show or hide components on the map temporarily while selecting links.
Route Analysis Tab
The Route Analysis tab displays aggregated travel time data and charts for all links in the route over a selected time period.
To run an analysis:
- In the From field, select your desired start date and time.
- In the To field, select your desired end date and time.
- Choose a Database - either Live data or Raw data.
- Make sure Down Sample is checked, especially when working with large datasets.
- Optionally, filter out specific days of the week or hours of the day. You can also use the AM Peak or PM Peak shortcuts to quickly select common time ranges.
- Click Analyze.
Once the analysis is complete, the following charts will appear:
- Travel Time Line Chart: Shows aggregated travel time across the route over the selected period.
- Speed Line Chart: Shows the average speed across the route.
- Count Bar Chart: Shows the number of detected MAC addresses per interval.
- Route Heat Map: Provides a visual breakdown of travel time or speed across different segments of the route.
- Travel Time Histogram: Shows the distribution of travel time values.
- Speed Histogram: Shows the distribution of speed values.
Each chart can be downloaded in PNG, JPEG, PDF, or SVG format by clicking the menu icon above it. To export the underlying data, click the CSV Report button.
Route Alerts Tab
The Route Alerts tab shows all alert templates currently assigned to this route. From here, you can assign a new alert template or update an existing one by clicking the Add or Update button. For full details on creating and managing alerts, see the Alert Rules section.
Route Settings Tab
The Route Settings tab is where you manage the configuration of your route. From here you can:
- Edit the route Name.
- Activate or Deactivate the route. When a route is active, it continuously aggregates and calculates travel time and speed based on the data from its links.
- Enable or disable Tracking Mode. When Tracking Mode is active, route travel time and speed are calculated using only MAC addresses that are detected across all links in the route -rather than all detections across individual links.
- Add or remove links from the Links dropdown menu.
- Modify the Links Order if the sequence of your links needs to be adjusted.
- Delete the route.
