Links
The Links section is where you manage all of your configured travel time links. From here, you can create new links, edit existing ones, run analyses, manage alerts, and fine-tune settings. This page walks you through everything you need to know to work with links in iNode Pulse.
Link Menu
The Link Menu displays a list of all your configured links along with their key details. Each entry includes the link's Status, Name, Distance, Free Flow Speed, Data Source, and Grid.
Important Note
The Status column is only visible when a link's data source is set to Crowdsourced.
A link's status can be one of five values:
Disabled: The link is not active and will not collect data, even if it has a schedule configured.
Scheduled: The link has been scheduled and will begin collecting data at the specified future time.
Collecting: The link is actively collecting data and will continue until the schedule ends.
Collected: The link has successfully completed its data collection based on its schedule.
Not Collected: The link was unable to complete data collection as scheduled. This may occur if, for example, your company's Google credit has expired or been depleted.
To view more details about a specific link, click the right arrow in the table or navigate to the Link Info Tab.
Create a Link
To create a new link, go to Links > Create and follow the steps below.
Step 1: Data Source
Select the Data Source(s) you want to use for this link. Depending on your account, you may see Sensor, Crowdsourced, or both as available options.
Once selected, choose a Default Data Source. This setting is for display purposes only and determines which data source is shown by default in the Link Analysis view.
Step 2: Name & Coordinates
Enter a Name for your link. The fields that follow will depend on which Data Source(s) you selected in Step 1.
If you selected Sensor (or both Sensor and Crowdsourced): Select the Origin Sensor and Destination Sensor from the dropdown menus, or click directly on the sensor icon on the map.
If you selected Crowdsourced:
- Optionally give a name to your Origin and Destination points — while these fields are optional, using clear names is recommended for easier identification later.
- Click on the map to place your Origin point. A green pin will appear to mark the location, and the Origin Coordinate field will automatically populate with the corresponding latitude and longitude.
- If you've previously created links and want to reuse one of their endpoints, check "Use Existing Link's Endpoints As Origin".
- Click on the map to place your Destination point. A purple pin will appear, and the Destination Coordinate field will populate automatically.
- Similarly, check "Use Existing Link's Endpoints As Destination" if you'd like to reuse an existing endpoint.
- To adjust the position of either pin, simply click on it and drag it to the desired location on the map.
- Click Path Suggestion to automatically generate the path between your Origin and Destination.
- Click Next.
Pro Tip
Use Map Settings to show or hide map components as needed while placing your points.
Step 3: Configuration
On this step, you can configure the following settings:
- Free-Flow Speed (optional): Set the expected free-flow speed for the link.
- Live Data Source: If you want to schedule the link for data collection, select a Live Data Source first.
- Update Interval: Set how frequently the link updates its data.
- Crowdsource Schedule: Define when the link should collect crowdsourced data.
- Note (optional): Add any extra context or description about the link or its schedule.
When finished, click Next.
Important Note
You are not required to schedule a link at this stage. You can click Next to skip to the Summary step and complete the link creation without a schedule. The link's status will be set to Disabled and it will not collect any data until you schedule it later from the Link Settings Tab.
Step 4: Summary
Review all of the link's information. If everything looks correct, click Submit to create the link.
Edit Path
If you need to modify a link's Origin or Destination, you can do so from the Link Path Tab:
- Click Edit Path.
- Move the white dot endpoints - located beneath the red Origin and Destination markers -to the new desired locations on the map.
- Click Path Suggestion to automatically recalculate the path between the updated points.
- If the path and direction look correct, click Save Path. If not, click Reset Path and repeat from step 2.
Once saved, you can click Export Path to download the latitude and longitude coordinates of all waypoints along the path.
Important Note
For the link to begin collecting data, make sure the Live option is enabled in the Link Settings Tab.
Bulk Edit
When you need to update settings across multiple links at once, use the Bulk Edit option instead of modifying each link individually.
- Go to Links > Bulk Edit.
- Select the links you want to update from the dropdown menu.
- To update the free-flow speed, check the Free Flow Speed option and enter the new value.
- Select your desired data source(s) for the Active, Live, and Default Data Source fields. Available options depend on your account (Sensor and/or Crowdsourced).
- Set the Travel Time Update Interval:
- If Sensor is selected as the Active data source, set the Sensor update interval (default: 3 minutes).
- If Crowdsourced is selected, set both the Crowdsourced update interval (default: 10 minutes) and the collection schedule.
- Click Save.
Link Analysis Tab
The Link Analysis Tab displays historical speed and travel time data for the link over a selected time period.
To run an analysis:
- In the From field, select your desired start date and time.
- In the To field, select your desired end date and time.
- Choose a Data Source. Depending on your account, you may see Sensor and/or Crowdsourced as options.
- If you select Sensor, choose whether to use Live data or Raw data from the Database field.
- If you select Crowdsourced, the Database field will be disabled.
- Make sure Down Sample is checked, especially when working with large datasets, to improve performance.
- Optionally, filter out specific days of the week or hours of the day from the analysis period. You can also use the AM Peak or PM Peak shortcuts to quickly select common time ranges.
- Click Analyze.
Once the analysis completes, the results displayed will vary based on your data source:
If you're using Sensor data, you'll see:
- Travel Time Matching and Filtering Results: Matching applies only minimum and maximum travel time filters, while filtering uses a smoothing algorithm to remove outliers.
- Speed Scatter Plot
- Count Bar Chart: Shows the number of detected MAC addresses per interval.
- Travel Time and Speed Histograms: Show the distribution of data.
If you're using Crowdsourced data, you'll see:
- Travel Time and Speed Charts: Showing the average values per interval.
- Travel Time and Speed Histograms: Showing the distribution across the analysis period.
All charts can be downloaded in PNG, JPEG, PDF, or SVG format by clicking the menu icon above each chart. You can also export the underlying data by clicking the CSV Report button.
Link Alerts Tab
This tab shows all alert templates currently assigned to the link. From here, you can assign a new alert template or update an existing one by clicking the Add or Update button.
Link Setting Tab
The Link Settings Tab gives you control over the link's analysis configuration. Adjusting these parameters allows you to tailor data collection and display to your specific needs.
