Study Overview
Before configuring your study, it's important to understand what the TMC Analysis module analyzes and what it delivers. The module quantifies the number of vehicles completing each approach, left turn, through, and right turn, from each movement at an intersection over configurable time intervals. Understanding the scope of the available analysis ensures your study is framed correctly from the outset and that the outputs directly support the decisions you need to make.
What is it
The TMC Analysis module within iNode counts and summarizes vehicle turning movements at intersections, measuring how many vehicles complete each approach, left turn, through, and right turn, from each movement over defined time intervals. It leverages connected vehicle data and telemetry sources to estimate turning movement counts continuously across your selected study area.
Designed for
The TMC Analysis module is designed to support:
- Signal timing and retiming studies
- Intersection capacity analysis
- Operational performance reviews
- Development and traffic impact studies
- Before–after evaluations
- Planning-level intersection assessments
It allows practitioners to obtain defensible turning movement counts quickly, particularly where field collection is not feasible, budgets are constrained, or historical data is required.
Output
The TMC Analysis module generates:
- Turning movement counts by movement and approach, including left turn, through, and right turn breakdowns
- Results filterable by weekday or weekend within the selected date range, time range, and defined bounds
- Map view displaying segment-level turning movement volumes and proportional share (%) per movement
- Time graph view showing average count per day and average daily sample size across the defined time set
- Exportable CSV and Excel reports
All outputs are timestamped and tied to user-defined study dates and time sets.
