Study Overview
As you begin working with the iNode TMC module, it’s important to first understand the analytical perspective it provides. The module delivers structured turning movement intelligence, quantifying left, through, and right volumes by approach across configurable time intervals, so you can clearly define what operational or planning question you are trying to answer. By understanding the scope and strength of the analytics available, you ensure your study is framed correctly from the outset and that the outputs directly support the decisions you need to make.
What is it
The TMC module within iNode provides a collection and summarization of vehicle turning movements at signalized intersections, specifically counting how many vehicles turn left, through, and right from each approach over defined time intervals. It leverages traffic data (often from connected vehicle data or other telemetry sources) to estimate these turning movement volumes continuously across a network.
Designed for
The TMC module is designed to support:
- Signal timing and retiming studies
- Intersection capacity analysis
- Operational performance reviews
- Development and traffic impact studies
- Before–after evaluations
- Planning-level intersection assessments
- Model calibration and validation
It allows practitioners to obtain defensible turning movement data quickly, particularly in cases where field collection is not feasible, budgets are constrained, or historical data is required.
Output
The TMC module generates:
- Turning movement volumes by approach
- Left / Through / Right movement breakdowns
- Configurable time intervals (15-min, 30-min, hourly, peak periods, custom ranges)
- Daily totals and peak hour summaries
- Exportable CSV / Excel reports
- Visualization-ready datasets for modeling or reporting
All outputs are timestamped and tied to user-defined study dates and timesets.
